Meghalaya police refute HNLC allegation

Shillong, Jan 24: The state police have rejected outright an allegation by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) that police were using its surrendered cadres as weapons against the outfit.

“It is not true at all. We have been fighting militancy on our own terms. Our own men have been fighting on the ground. We don’t need to use surrendered cadres. That is not true at all, that is outright false,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told on Thursday.

HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw in a statement alleged that the state police used so-called surrendered HNLC members as weapons against the HNLC.
