Shillong, Oct 12: Names of two foreigners have been deleted from Meghalaya’s voter list during the ongoing SIR, while 2,641 of over 21 lakh electors have been deemed ineligible for inclusion in the final list, Chief Electoral Officer B D R Tiwari said on Monday.
Besides, the exercise has detected 406 duplicate entries, he said.
The draft voters list released in August contains 21,69,243 electors against 23,49,645 before the revision. The final electoral rolls is scheduled to be published on October 26.
“During the SIR process, two foreigners were found at Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills, and their names were removed from the voter list,” Tiwari said.
The two foreigners were identified during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, he said.
The revision has also detected 406 duplicate entries, which Tiwari described as dual voters.
District-wise figures shared by the CEO included 113 duplicate entries in North Garo Hills, 63 in East Garo Hills, 64 in West Garo Hills, 37 in East Khasi Hills, 35 in West Khasi Hills and 27 in Eastern West Khasi Hills.
The figures provided for these six districts add up to 339, leaving 67 entries unaccounted for in the district-wise breakdown.
Of the 2,641 electors found ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll, 420 failed to submit the required documents, and 129 did not appear for hearings. Several electors could not be traced within the stipulated time, Tiwari said.
According to the latest data, 6,51,735 notices were generated during the SIR, including 2,22,786 cases involving voters who could not be mapped to the previous electoral roll and 4,28,949 cases with mapping discrepancies.
Hearings on 6,21,399 notices, or 95.35 per cent, have been completed. The draft electoral roll contained 21,69,243 electors, of whom 20,86,026 have been marked for inclusion in the final list.
The Election Department received and digitised 28,627 applications during the revision, including 17,248 for the inclusion of names, 1,963 for deletion or objections, 1,673 for shifting of residence and 7,743 for correction of entries.
The department has urged electors to verify their names in the final roll through their Booth Level Officers or the Voters’ Service Portal. (PTI)
