Shillong, Jan 16: The state government on Wednesday decided to amend the Meghalaya State Anthem by including Pnar language in the lyrics.
Announcing this decision after chairing a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “I am happy to announce that the cabinet has today decided to amend the Meghalaya State Anthem and we are happy to include a few lines in Pnar in the State Anthem.”
“This will be unveiled in the Meghalaya Games, which will be held in Wahiajer in Jaintia Hills and we will be playing it on that day,” he added.
The decision was based on some of the suggestions from representatives from Jaintia Hills particularly deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and the public at large, said the chief minister.
Guidelines for the Art and Heritage award
Meanwhile, the proposal to institute and constitute guidelines for the Art and Heritage award was also approved by the cabinet.
Announcing this, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the Arts & Culture department has proposed awards to be given to different individuals in the field of arts, which will cover different areas from performing arts to folk music, folk dance, fold drama and theatre, craftsmanship, renowned practitioners on domain experts and living exponents.
“There will be a committee, which will be headed by the chief secretary and other members from the Arts & Culture department who will select the individuals. This can be done on a nomination as well as application basis on an annual basis,” he informed.
