‘Meghalaya witnessed transformation under Conrad Sangma’s leadership’

Shillong, Nov 21: Cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak has claimed that visible transformation in infrastructure and financial growth has taken place under the leadership of chief minister Conrad K Sangma.

“Meghalaya had seen a visible change in terms of infrastructure development under the leadership of chief minister Conrad K Sangma,” said Marak after inauguration of Williamnagar meat and fish market and extension office building of Williamnagar Municipal Board (WMB).

The state has also witnessed an improvement of 11 per cent in terms of financial growth under his leadership, the minister in charge of PHE, Soil and Water Conservation, Housing, etc., said.

He also lauded WMB Chief Executive Officer Ripamchi N Sangma and chairman Benedick K Sangma for their role in constructing the market, enabling vendors to operate with hygiene and dignity.

He also announced plans to build a vegetable market at Williamnagar to assist local farmers.

“Considering the plight of local farmers in selling their produce on the market days, the government is planning to construct vegetables market at Williamnagar… a slaughter house will soon be constructed at Williamnagar for which the land had already been identified,” he said.

He urged meat and fish vendors to cooperate on waste management.

Deputy Commissioner RP Marak emphasized the importance of designated sale points, reminding vendors that road‑side meat and fish sales have been prohibited by the High Court.

He noted that Williamnagar, with its master plan, is poised for rapid development.

Superintendent of Police Stephen Rynjah called on vendors to maintain a clean, safe market and seek assistance against anti‑social elements.
