Minor girl being ‘robbed’ turns out to be fabricated story

Shillong, Sep 25: An incident of alleged robbing of a minor girl by unidentified miscreants at Nongthymmai here has turned out to be a fabricated story by her.

The alleged incident, occurred on 25 August 2025 at Lamiablot, had sparked widespread concern over public safety. Accordingly, an FIR was lodged at Nongthymmai Beat House.

However, during police investigation, it was found that the girl had given the money to a friend for an online purchase and she fabricated the story of being robbed to avoid scolding from family.

“The incident never occurred as alleged and that the incident as reported is not a fact,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the girl’s confession was recorded before a Magistrate in the District Court.

Informing that a final report in the case will be submitted, the SP said, “It may also be noted that giving false information (FIR) to the Police is an offence and legal action can be taken accordingly.”
