Mizoram cracks down on fake GST registrations, fraudulent applicants under scanner

Aizawl, Jul 3: The Mizoram government has launched a crackdown on fraudulent Goods and Services Tax (GST) registrations, after detecting multiple applications with forged documents, officials said.

A statement issued by the state taxation department on Friday said that following a scrutiny, several suspicious GST registrations in which applicants “either furnished unverifiable documents or provided business addresses where no commercial activity existed” were uncovered.

The irregularities were detected during risk-based scrutiny, data analysis and physical verification conducted by the department, it said.

Action is being initiated under the provisions of the Mizoram Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, the statement said.

The taxation department has urged property owners and business operators not to share identity documents, residential or commercial addresses, mobile numbers, email ids and other personal information for GST registration without proper verification. (PTI)
