Mizoram to construct ropeway at state’s highest waterfall

Aizawl, Mar 20: The Mizoram government will construct a ropeway at Vantawng Falls near Thenzawl town in Serchhip district to boost tourism infrastructure in the state, an official said on Thursday.

The project that will enable tourists to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Mizoram’s highest waterfall is set to be funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), she said.

According to her, Rs 34.50 crore has been received for the project under the SASCI scheme.

Administrative approval and expenditure sanction have been formally granted, the official said.

“Although the financial and administrative hurdles have been cleared, a contractor is yet to be selected to execute the project,” she said.

Vantawng Falls, which is about 92 km from Aizawl, is already a premier destination for domestic and international travellers.

The construction of a ropeway is expected to transform the site into a world-class attraction, offering easier access and a unique vantage point of the lush greenery.

Local stakeholders believe the project will generate significant employment opportunities and boost the economy of the Thenzawl region.(PTI)
