MP government to roll out state-run bus service

Bhopal, Jun 2: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said that his government would launch a state-run bus service in phases, and women will be able to travel in these buses by the coming Rakshabandhan festival.

A state transport service plays a very important role in the lives of the poor but the existing service was discontinued during the Congress regime, he told reporters here.

“Now, our government is not only rapidly constructing better and modern roads, but citizens will also benefit from special state transport facilities as the government is moving towards a phased launch of the Chief Minister’s Sugam Parivahan Seva,” Yadav said.

“Our beloved sisters will travel in state transport buses on Rakshabandhan,” he added. The festival falls on August 28 this year.

People will no longer be forced to travel in private vehicles that pose risk to life, said Yadav.

Due to Madhya Pradesh’s vast expanse, distances between cities are long and people are forced to travel in vehicles carrying goods, he said, adding that the Chief Minister’s Sugam Parivahan Seva will eliminate all these problems and connect the interior parts of the state as well as provide connectivity to neighboring states.

On Monday, Yadav chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of Madhya Pradesh Passenger Transport and Infrastructure Limited to discuss the new service. It was attended by the Board’s Vice Chairman and Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh and senior officials.

The Board’s Managing Director Manish Singh informed during a presentation at the meeting that the state will be divided into seven regions — Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Sagar, Gwalior, and Rewa — for the purpose of the Chief Minister’s Sugam Parivahan Seva.

Bus operations under the PM e-Bus Service and Chief Minister’s Sugam Parivahan Seva Yojana would initially begin in the Indore region.

A total of 620 routes have been identified from seven cities and as many regional headquarters to district headquarters across the state, Singh said. (PTI)
