Oppn Chief Whip position to Ronnie V Lyngdoh

Shillong, Aug 30:The state chief of All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has been recognised as the new Leader of Opposition (LO) in the state assembly.

At the same time, the lone Congress legislator from Mylliem Ronnie V Lyngdoh was made the Opposition Chief Whip, according to an official notification issued in this regard.

The TMC had staked claim for the post of LO with the support of the lone Congress legislator.

For Mukul Sangma, this is the second time to be appointed as the LO.

The position fell vacant after the Congress remaining with only one MLA following merger of its three legislators with the ruling NPP and former Gambegre MLA Saleng Sangma being elected to the Lok Sabha recently.
