Kohima, Jul 20: The Nagaland unit of the Congress on Monday said the party’s nationwide ‘Chhatron ki Goonj’ campaign against examination paper leaks will continue till justice is delivered to the affected students.
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) working president Khriedi Theunuo, addressing reporters at the Congress Bhavan here, accused the government of failing to protect the integrity of the education and recruitment system.
“Under the campaign, party workers would create awareness among the public in Nagaland on the issue,” he said.
The Congress is determined to continue exposing failures in the country’s education and examination system “till justice is delivered”, he said.
Fellow NPCC working president C Apok Jamir alleged that examination paper leaks and recruitment irregularities have shattered the aspirations of millions of young people and their families.
He said parents often incur debts or sell property to finance their children’s education, while students spend years preparing for competitive examinations, only to see their efforts undermined by corruption and systemic failures.
Referring to figures cited by the party leader Rahul Gandhi, Jamir claimed that more than 150 examination paper leaks over the past decade have affected around 7.5 crore students, while alleging that the government has failed to take adequate corrective measures.
Jamir said student agitations witnessed in different parts of the country, including Nagaland, over alleged recruitment irregularities were examples of declining public confidence in educational and recruitment institutions.
He alleged that merit-based opportunities were increasingly being replaced by irregular appointments and examination malpractice, disproportionately affecting students from middle- and lower-income families.
The ‘Chhatron ki Goonj’ campaign of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India was launched by Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on June 17 from Rajasthan’s Kota.
The campaign seeks reforms in the examination and recruitment system, including greater transparency, accountability, strict action against those responsible for paper leaks, protection of students’ interests, and independent institutions to conduct fair examinations.
The Congress has announced that the campaign will continue across the country through public outreach programmes, awareness drives and political mobilisation.(PTI)
