Need local support to extend railways: BJP leader

Shillong, Feb 13: The role of local support is crucial for expanding rail network in three states of the North East, including Meghalaya, said Devesh Kumar, an MLC of Bihar Legislative Assembly and convener of Budget Publicity Campaign for North East.

“Prime minister wants each and every state to be connected by the rail network, but this has to be done with the help of the local population,” the member of legislative council (MLC) said, terming Mizoram’s recent connection to the rail network as a “boon”.

Pointing out that only three states in the North East lack rail connectivity, the BJP leader said the government is “more than willing” to extend the network with local cooperation.

BJP national spokesperson Shazia Ilmi echoed this sentiment, saying, “The work has begun… we will ensure that is supplemented and we really hope all states are connected.”

Ilmi emphasized the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, saying, “We are completely dedicated and committed to it”.
