
Shillong, Apr 25: Following the sensational incident of assault on a teacher in his office chamber, the state government has assured of providing adequate security on the campus of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Speaking to reporters on Friday, deputy chief minister in-charge Home, Prestone Tynsong, said law would take its own course against those involved in the assaulting an assistant professor of Hindi department in NEHU.
An FIR was lodged by assistant professor Dr Alok Singh against NEHUSU president Sandy Sohtun and five others for allegedly assaulting him in his chamber on April 24.

“I have already instructed the Superintendent of Police (SP) and law enforcers to ensure safety and security and that the whole campus of NEHU is fully secured,” the deputy CM said.
Replying to a query, Tynsong said, “It is the duty of the state government to ensure the safety and security of all – be it students or faculty members.”
Allaying apprehension in certain sections, the deputy CM said, “Please don’t have any kind of tension as of now… we have already strengthened the security and we will make sure that everybody is safe… those staying or going to NEHU campus.”
Assuring that the NEHU campus is secured, he said police are on the job to ensure safety of people in the campus.
