Shillong, June 9: Deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has asserted that no illegal coal mining and transportation is taking place in Jaintia Hills region.
“No (illegal coal mining & transportation in Jaintia Hills). Now, whatever coal movement, it is through legal papers only, there is no illegal,” Dhar, a prominent leader from Jaintia Hills, told reporters while responding to a query on Monday.
He said the chief minister had also replied to this.
“There is no hanky-panky. Everything is in order. Yes, if there is anything wrong, the department concerned will look into the matter,” he said.

Border row: Regional committee report
Meanwhile, the deputy chief minister said the regional committee constituted for finding solution to inter-state boundary dispute in West Jaintia Hills has been asked to submit its report within a month’s time.
“I have asked them to submit the report within one month,” said Dhar, also chairman of the regional committee for West Jaintia Hills.
The report will be submitted by the committee after holding a meeting with its Assam counterpart.
“Then both the states will take a call on the issue,” he said.
Asked, Dhar said the delay was due to one village Baikham near Ratacherra.
