Shillong, Oct 29: Authorities in Assam have not yet responded to communications from Meghalaya regarding the state’s claim over areas in disputed Langpih region even as the neighbouring state’s response was “positive” on the claims.
“We have made efforts to contact our counterparts in Assam. I have also asked the DC of West Khasi Hills to speak to the DC of Kamrup and so far, we have not been able to receive any favourable response,” said cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh, who is also the chairman of Regional Committee for West Khasi Hills.
The response from Assam is crucial to facilitate a joint visit to Langpih by authorities from both the states.
A report on the issue can be submitted to the state government only after the joint visit, said Lyngdoh.
The committee also shared with Assam the documentation to establish Meghalaya’s claims over 54 villages under Langpih sector.
Pending Assam government’s response on the joint border visit, the earlier dateline of submitting the report by 2024 winter is unlikely to be met.
