No VPP wave in Nongkrem : Lambor Malngiang

Shillong, Sept 8: Refuting his reported move to jump the VPP, Nongkrem MDC Lambor Malngiang said till date he remains as an independent MDC in the KHADC.

“I will continue as an Independent MDC as elections in the state are not based on any political party. Election depends on the candidate and the relationship with the people and I will continue to remain as an Independent,” said Malngiang.

While denying existence of any “VPP wave” in his constituency, Malngiang said, “The wave of VPP might be in some places. I cannot comment on that as for me my only concentration is in my own constituency.”

He added that in elections there will also be winning and losing but at the end of the day, it is the people who will decide, as people are smart enough, whom to vote for.

Malngiang said changes should be only through work which an elected representative does for the people and the constituency.

“Earlier, the road from Pomlakrai to Laitlyngkot was in dilapidated condition, but now you can see changes have come and that too with a double lane road, after I won as an MLA. This is the change,” he added.

Reacting to VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit’s remark that “all MDCs of KHADC are expire MDCs”, Malngiang said, “Basaiawmoit should mind his words before making such statement against all MDCs who are working for the welfare of the people and to strengthen the district council.”

Basaiawmoit, the president of Voice of the People Party (VPP), is also an MLA of Nongkrem, constituency.

“It is better to have an expired MDC who is working for the people of their respective constituencies, than that person who resigned just after being elected as MDC,” said Malngiang.

He added that extension of the KHADC term was done based on valid ground and that the Governor had given his assent for the same.
