Nod to 11 more coal mines soon: CM

Shillong, Apr 8: In what can be the beginning of revival of the coal mining industry yet maintaining environmental safeguards, 11 more miners are all set to get permission for scientific mining of coal in the state.

Informing this, chief minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday said there were only three miners, who received permission so far, and engaged in extraction of coal.

Mining has started in scientific manner to the satisfaction of Coal Ministry although some issues have left in terms of transportation, he said.

“As far as the latest information, about 11 more miners are just on the verge of getting the mining opening permissions,” he said.

He also expressed the hope that in one or two months, around 10 to 11 miners would start scientific mining of coal, mostly in East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills, he added.
