NPP has done great service to GHADC: Timothy D Shira

Shillong, Dec 17: The National People’s Party (NPP) has done great service to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), said NPP leader and cabinet minister Timothy D Shira while exuding confidence over the party’s victory in the upcoming GHADC elections.

“We are ruling not only in the state but in the district council, and we have done great service to the district council,” Shira said on Tuesday.

He also credited Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for his endeavour to bring relief to the agitating GHADC employees by making way for release of their salaries pending for over 40 months.

Referring to the NPP government’s initiative of arranging payment of 12 months’ salary to GHADC employees, he termed it a significant achievement of the Chief Minister as well as the NPP.

Regarding allegations of fund misuse, Shira said, “Allegations are always there in politics. Even if we do good things, there will be allegations, there will be criticism. This is the thrust of the opposition.”

He attributed the allegations to the opposition’s attempts to gain political mileage.

On the possibility of anti-incumbency affecting NPP’s chances, Shira was unfazed. “I don’t foresee any difficulties; we will easily get the majority. I am very much confident,” he said.
