NPP to finalise LS, RS candidates soon: CM

Shillong, April 10: The National People’s Party (NPP) will soon finalise its candidates for the bye-election to Shillong Lok Sabha seat and party’s nomination for the state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat, NPP chief and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Friday.

“We will be having the meeting very soon and the party will be finalising in both the areas very soon,” he told reporters.

Asked about MDA partner BJP’s move to field candidate for the Shilong seat, Sangma said, “I respect that every party has its own identity, constitution, and right to contest democratically. We are not going to intervene in that.”

Mentioning about discussions about fielding candidate among coalition partners, he said, “In a coalition, we do expect some discussion prior, but it is not always necessary that we have to agree in all aspects.”
