OIL launches Project ‘OIL Jigyasa’ to empower underprivileged students with STEM education

Guwahati, Nov 26: Oil India Limited (OIL) has introduced Project ‘OIL Jigyasa’, a forward-thinking, technology-driven initiative aimed at promoting sustainable education for underprivileged students as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The project was ceremoniously launched by OIL’s Resident Chief Executive (RCE), Rupjyoti Phukan, at Duliajan Adarsha Balika Vidyapeeth in Duliajan.

The launch event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Bhairab Bhuyan, President of OIL India Rural Development Society (OIRDS); Debashis Bora, CGM (Field Administration) and Vice President of OIRDS; Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, CGM (F&A); Shyamal Prasad Das, GM (PA); and Trina Chakrabarti, Regional Director (East) of CRY (Child Rights and You), along with other senior officials, teachers, students, parents, and members of the school management committee.


The project is expected to leverage innovative technology to bridge educational gaps and empower underprivileged students, aligning with OIL’s commitment to community development and sustainable growth.


The project is implemented under the aegis of the Oil India Rural Development Society (OIRDS) and focuses on democratizing access to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and skill development. The initiative seeks to equip rural schools with advanced learning solutions that nurture curiosity, creativity, and innovation in young minds. Project ‘OIL Jigyasa’ incorporates state-of-the-art STEM programs, tinkering labs, modernized infrastructure, and specialized teacher training programs to empower students with hands-on learning experiences.


The project also emphasizes developing critical skills such as computational thinking, design mindset, and adaptive learning, while fostering a culture of critical thinking and problem-solving. In the year-1 of FY 24-25, with an investment of Rs 3 crore, project OIL Jigyasa will be implemented in 24 rural government schools of OIL’s operational areas of Assam.

In the subsequent years, the project will also cover OIL’s operational areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura. Implemented by OIRDS in association with Child Rights and You (CRY), a national-level organization that ensures happier childhoods for India’s underprivileged children and specializes in designing and operationalizing educational interventions for children.


The project is expected to impact positively on school enrolment and improvement in academic subjects of Science and Maths while invigorating the zest of knowledge sustainability. In the future, the project also plans to leverage prestigious tie-ups with ISRO, IUEF, International Asteroid Search Collaboration- NASA Citizen Scientist Project, International Astronautical Federation and other relevant organizations through Smart circuits to widen the realm of knowledge exchange for our children.


The project is poised to make a significant impact by bridging the education gap and creating a platform for holistic learning and innovation. By fostering a passion for STEM, ‘OIL Jigyasa’ endeavours to inspire the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow.
