One dead in factory blast in Telangana

Hyderabad, Jan 4: One person was killed and three others suffered injuries in a blast at a factory in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana on Saturday.

One person suffered burn injuries to the face and hands, while the injuries of the remaining two were not serious, police said.

Quoting company officials, they said four people were present at the spot when the incident occurred.

Those working in other buildings on the factory premises who heard a loud sound, rushed out in panic. The workers experienced numbness in the ears and they were sent for a medical check up.

The explosion took place at the factory involved in the production of explosive materials and is suspected to be linked to magnesium.

The company officials felt that the incident might have happened due to alleged mishandling while the magnesium material was being filled up into pellets, police told the media.

A police officer explained that immediate access to the blast site was not possible due to the highly explosive nature of the magnesium material there. After it cools off, investigators would collect the material, which will be sent to a forensic lab.

An official assured that action would be taken for any negligence following a thorough investigation.

Ruling Congress MLA Beerla Ilaiah claimed that the impact of the blast was such that five nearby villages heard sounds thrice with utensils in homes falling from cupboards.

Alleging that the company management functioned with a profit motive without taking strong measures for workers’ welfare, he told reporters that a thorough probe would be conducted into the incident.(PTI)
