Shillong, July 27: One Shanbor Rani was killed and two others injured, allegedly in a group clash involving at least three persons, on the outskirts of Shillong on Sunday night.
Police suspect the victims knew each other.
The first victim was found with stab wounds around 10.30 pm near the BSF Battalion gate.
“BSF personnel shifted him to NEIGRIHMS where he is undergoing treatment,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters on Monday.
Hours later, police were alerted to recovery of a body at Mawkasiang.
“We received information in the morning about a body with multiple stab injuries in Mawkasiang. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” he said.
A third person from the same group was later traced at Mawtawar, also with injuries.
“He has been hospitalised as well. It appears all three were together,” the SP said.
The deceased, Shanbor Rani, had prior criminal records with involvement in several cases, including murder and offences under NDPS Act, he said.
On possible motives, the SP said nothing has been ruled out yet.
“At this stage we cannot confirm the motive. It could be related to drugs or a vendetta,” he said.
Police confirmed that a vehicle recovered from the spot belonged to the deceased.
