Order under Section 163 BNSS promulgated

Tura, Nov 28: In view of the 4th Edition of Me’gong Festival, 2024 which would be held at Jengjal, Baljek, West Garo Hills District on 29th and 30th November, 2024, the District Magistrate, West Garo Hills, Tura issued an Order under Section 163 BNSS with immediate effect prohibiting movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) with more than 2 axle vehicles, including trucks, lorries, trailers and other similar vehicles from Snalgre to Tura Town on NH-51 from 6 AM on 29th November to 6 AM of 1st December 2024. The order had been passed to regulate the movement of vehicles to ensure safety and security of the general public and also to facilitate smooth flow of traffic during Me’gong Festival, 2024.

The order further suspends all construction activities involving the use of heavy machinery, public works and utility works conducted by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and Public Works Department (PWD) from Snalgre to Tura Town on NH-51 from 6 AM on 29th November to 6 AM on 1st December, 2024.

Anyone found violating this order would be liable for legal action under Section 223 of BNS and other relevant provisions of the law. This order does not apply to vehicles associated with emergency services, including ambulances, fire services and police which are exempted from the purview of this order.

All authorities and officers concerned are hereby directed to ensure compliance with this order. Adequate measures and checkpoints shall be established to enforce these restrictions effectively, the order stated.
