Palm Sunday celebrated with religious fervour across Mizoram

Aizawl, Mar 29 : Palm Sunday was celebrated across Mizoram, with chants of ‘Hosanna’ echoing the streets as children carrying palm leaves held processions in the morning.

Various churches commemorated the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of the holy week leading to his crucifixion and resurrection.

While these Palm Sunday processions were traditionally led by children, many adults also joined the congregations on the occasion.

Palm Sunday processions and the rhythmic chanting of ‘Hosanna’ form an integral part of the local observance, symbolically re-enacting Christ’s entry into the holy city.

After the processions, special church and prayer services were organised by various churches of different denominations across the state.

In their sermons, local pastors and church elders preached the significance of the day, locally known as ‘Tumkau Ni’.

Special teas were served to church members after worship services in the morning as part of the celebration.

According to Biblical teachings, Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey on the last Sunday before his crucifixion.

The Gospels record that people spread their cloaks and palm leaves on the street, shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” and “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” to honour him as the long-awaited Messiah and King. (PTI)
