PGI ranking has positive stride: CM

Shillong, Jun 24: Reacting to the Performance Grading Index (PGI) ranking placing Meghalaya at the bottom, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said it had a positive stride as it would only motivate the state to work harder to improve the education sector.

Stating that education is a complex sector where the impact of decisions takes time to reflect, he expressed confidence that reforms and interventions being implemented will yield better results in the future.

Highlighting reforms and interventions in the education sector, he said, “For example, we went into the CBSE books for certain subjects… the higher PGI marks that we should get will come in now and may be in our PGI ratings that are there.”

He assured that the state will continue to work hard to improve the education sector, saying, “This is a big challenge for us and I assure you this kind of report will just make us want to work even harder… and ensure that we will turn this around.”
