Shillong, Sep 9: The government has accorded top priority to the case of a six-year-old girl missing for nearly two months from Upper Rajasimla village in North Garo Hills district, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said in the assembly on Tuesday.
“The matter continues to be accorded highest priority, and every possible effort is being made to bring the child back to her family and ensure justice is served,” Tynsong said in reply to query from Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin.
Police and multiple agencies have been working tirelessly to find the child and uncover the circumstances of her disappearance, Tynsong said.
The girl went missing on 18 July 2025 while her parents were away engaged in a work under MGNREGA.
Following a missing report filed by the girl’s father at Kharkutta Police Station, multiple teams, including Special Force, Search and Rescue Team, Fire and Emergency Services, and a K9 unit, were deployed to scan the area. Drones were also used to cover the difficult terrain.
One person was arrested in this connection and several leads are being pursued, Tynsong informed.
He said the possibility of outside involvement is also be investigated in coordination with Assam police and other agencies.
