Shillong, July 29: The state police have registered an FIR against a senior advocate after an intern filed a complaint accusing him of molesting her at his Keating Road office and allegedly attempting to buy her silence.
SP (City) Stephan Rynjah said the complaint was filed on July 28 and a case has been registered. “On July 28, we received a written complaint from a law intern. She alleged that in the chamber of an advocate located at Keating Road, the advocate called her to his chamber and tried to molest her. However, she resisted and pushed him away,” Rynjah stated.
“She further alleged that she was asked to come inside a room, where he again tried to molest her,” the SP said.
According to the complaint, the intern raised an alarm and informed her friends. She has also alleged that the lawyer later offered her money and asked her to meet him again on Saturday.
“As per the written complaint, the accused allegedly tried to offer her money and insisted that she meet him again on Saturday,” Rynjah said.
The complainant left the premises in distress and later approached police with a written complaint.
“After the incident, the complainant left in a distressed condition and informed her friends about what had happened. She subsequently submitted a written complaint, which was registered at Sadar Police Station as Sadar PS Case No. 265 under Sections 74 and 75 of the BNS,” the SP added.
The matter is under investigation and statements are being recorded.
Rynjah said further action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
