Shillong, Oct 14: In a case of witch-hunting, a mentally challenged man was assaulted by a mob that accused him to be a “menshohnoh”, before being rescued by Sohiong police in East Khasi Hills district.
The person, Arnikstar Rytathiang (35), drew the mob ire while wandering aimlessly at Kynroh Nongbri village around 9 pm on Monday.
When police reached the spot, the traumatised person from Wo Mawthlong village was guarded by village elders of Umthlong at Kynroh Nongbri community hall.

The mob was outside was pelting stones and demanded custody of the “menshohnoh”.
The police team comprising SOT personnel led by DSP (Ops) from Shillong and O/C Mawngap rescued the victim from the community hall, said East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
During medical examination, he was found to have suffered minor injuries.
According to the medical officer, the victim is mentally challenged and undergoing treatment at MIMHANS Shillong, the SP said.
