Shillong, Aug 14: Comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place for celebration of the 80th Independence Day in Meghalaya as the state’s largest flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at Polo Grounds in Shillong.
“Elaborate arrangements have been made for the celebrations. Polo will host the biggest flag hoisting in the state, while Sohra and Pynursla sub-divisions will also hold separate parades and functions,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said on Friday.
The SP said the district is on high alert and vulnerable points have been secured.
“Deployments have been made across several locations. The district police are on alert and we will ensure an incident-free Independence Day. Tackle teams and regular teams are all in place,” he said.
Syiem added that additional forces have been inducted and are deployed 24/7.
“Several companies have arrived in the district and have been stationed at various points,” he said.
