Polls in tribal states: Hek foresees BJP’s gain in UCC exemption

Shillong, Nov 7: BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek has said the Centre’s decision to exempt the tribal states from Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would help the party get more MLAs in such states including Meghalaya.

Terming it a game changer for the party in the tribal states going to polls, Hek said, “People will support the BJP for development and its decision on the UCC.”
“In future, we will get more MLAs because of the development and also now that the UCC (will be implemented) outside the ambit of the tribal states,” he said.

“BJP is listening to the problems of the states and that of the tribals. That’s why they have not introduced the UCC in the tribal states like Meghalaya,” he added.
