Pondy Pro-tem Speaker accepts Rangasamy’s resignation from Thattanchavady Assembly seat

Puducherry, May 19: Puducherry pro-tem Speaker A Anbalagan on Tuesday accepted the resignation of AINRC leader and Chief Minister N Rangasamy from Thattanchavady Assembly constituency.

Rangasamy contested from Thattanchavady and Mangalam seats in the April 9 Assembly polls and won in both constituencies.

A release from Assembly Secretary J Dayalane said the chief minister has retained the Mangalam seat. The pro-tem Speaker has accepted Rangasamy’s resignation from Thattanchavady.

Rangasamy was sworn in as the chief minister for the fifth time on May 13 along with senior BJP leader A Namassivayam and AINRC legislator Malladi Krishna Rao.

The strength of the AINRC in the 30-member House has now come down to 11 and the overall strength of the AINRC-led NDA is 17. Its alliance partners — the BJP won four seats; the AIADMK and the LJK have one member each. (PTI)
