Portfolios allotted to new ministers, Lahkmen returns to Education, Metbah gets Power

Shillong, Sept 17: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has allotted ministerial berths to his eight new cabinet members with Lahkmen Rymbui of the UDP returning to his previous position as Education Minister, while his party president Metbah Lyngdoh has been given the Power Department.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has retained Cabinet affairs and the Finance Department while his two deputy chief ministers, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, also hold on to their current ministries, Home (police) and Urban Affairs, respectively.

The lone senior minister in the cabinet not affected by the reshuffle- Marcuise N Marak has also retained his current departments, including Public Health Engineering (PHE) that is implementing the JJM central project in the state.

The two new ministers from the Garo Hills, Timothy D Shira from North Garo Hills and Brening A Sangma from West Garo Hills, have been handed the departments of Tourism and Border Areas, respectively.

The new face of the BJP in the cabinet, Sanbor Shullai of Laban, Shillong has been given Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, while Sosthenes Sohtum representing Ri-Bhoi is the new Community and Rural Development minister.

Jaintia Hills new minister Wailakmiki Shylla is the new Health and Sports Minister, whereas Methodius Dkhar of West Khasi Hills has been given the responsibility of Food and Civil Supplies, among other departments.
