
Shillong, Apr 8: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has been making earnest efforts to recover its outstanding dues, which now stand at around Rs 659 crore, official sources said.
The huge outstanding dues of power consumers – both public and private – has been one of the key factors affecting commercial performance of Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL), a wing of MeECL.
The cumulative dues are to the tune of Rs 658.92 crore, official sources said.
“All out efforts are being made to recover these dues which would ultimately lead to better fiscal health of the company,” they said.

Among the defaulters, Domestic (low tension) consumers have the highest outstanding dues of Rs 235.90 crore.
Other major consumers with major outstanding dues are: Industrial (EHT) – Rs 112.84 crore, Kutir Jyoti (BPLM) – Rs 106.44 crore, Industrial (HT) – Rs 71.05 crore, and commercial (LT) – Rs 43.75 crore.
There are others with lower, yet significant, outstanding dues: Domestic (HT) – Rs 9.23 crore, Ferro Alloy (EHT) – Rs 9.42 crore, Ferro Alloy (HT) – Rs 4.36 crore, Industrial (LT) – Rs 14.90 crore, Kutir Jyoti (BPLU) – Rs 7.81 crore, Public Lighting – Rs 1.07 crore, Public Water Supply (HT) – Rs 10.26 crore, Public Water Supply (LT) – Rs 2.35 crore, General Purposes (BS) – Rs 15.99 crore, General Purpose (GP) – Rs 5.30 crore, Crematorium – Rs 0.10 crore, Agriculture – Rs 0.01 crore, Commercial (CCTV) – Rs 0.09 crore, and Commercial (HT) – Rs 7.57 crore.
It may be mentioned here that of the total outstanding dues of 659 crore, Rs 186 crore is pending to litigation issues, which is an uncontrollable factor, according to sources.
