Shillong, Dec 11: Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh on Thursday assured that the state, which is currently experiencing frequent power shutdowns, will have uninterrupted electricity power supply during Christmas.
Asserting that the current power situation is “very smooth”, the minister clarified that only routine maintenance or works under ongoing redistribution schemes may require temporary shutdowns.
Lyngdoh said officials have been instructed to issue advance notice — preferably two to three days — to headmen and consumers before any scheduled outages at the division or subdivision level.
Asked about financial and operational challenges faced by Power Department and MeECL, including pending bills and interest burdens, the minister said both entities are “on the right track.”
He said coordinated efforts are under way to ensure consumers are not affected during peak or off-peak hours and credited recent improvements to the support and cooperation of all stakeholders.
The department, he added, is now focused on streamlining systems and strengthening overall efficiency.
