Shillong, Dec 21: With Christmas approaching, pre-Christmas programmes are being held across the state. In a pre-Christmas event, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak inaugurated a newly constructed resting place ‘Neng·takram’ along with festive light decorations near SP Office, Williamnagar on Saturday.

Explaining significance of the resting place, East Garo Hills SP Stephen A Rynjah said many people visiting the SP Office, especially those coming from distant places, often did not have a proper place to rest and were compelled to sit on footpaths or nearby areas.

Keeping this in mind, the police department decided to construct a dedicated sitting and resting space, he said.
However, he said, ‘Neng·takram’ is not meant only for visitors to the SP Office but is open for use by everyone.
Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church, Williamnagar, delivered a Christmas message on the occasion, describing Christmas as a celebration of hope, peace, and joy, and encouraged people to uphold these values in their daily lives.

In his address, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Western Range, JFK Marak appreciated the initiative of the SP Office, saying it would serve as a good recreational and relaxation space, especially for police personnel.
He also thanked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for introducing the Police Infrastructure and Renovation Scheme, under which several dilapidated police buildings across the state have been successfully renovated.

Applauding the efforts of the SP, Marcuise N Marak said innovative and creative initiatives such as the resting arena and festive decorations have taken shape in Williamnagar under his leadership.
Special musical performances by Holyfield R Marak and Mibande Ch Marak added colour to the pre-Christmas celebration.
