Shillong, May 16: An awareness campaign farmers “Pre-Kharif Campaign” will be held across the North-Eastern region from May 29 to June 12 as part of Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan-Bharat Krishi Jagran Yatra: Anusandhan Kisan Ke Dwar.
The campaign, to be led by Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) NEH Region, will start with the objectives to create awareness among farmers about improved agricultural technologies and government schemes.

It also aims at mobilising the scientific fraternity to have reciprocal learning with farmers and to document grassroots insights for strengthening agricultural research.
Promotion of natural farming and making farmers aware of benefits of soil health card (SHC) are some of the key themes of the programme.
Around 1500-2000 teams of multi-disciplinary scientists and officers from various institutions will be formed for the campaign across the region, according to the ICAR.

Each team will visit 2–3 strategically selected locations representing clusters of 8–10 villages and engage with around 200 farmers per day.
With three teams operating per district, it is expected that around 1200-1800 farmers will be sensitised each day, the ICAR stated.
Special efforts will be made to ensure that at least 50% of the participants are farm women and rural youth, thereby promoting inclusive participation, it added.
