Shillong, Nov 23: An inquiry has been launched into death of two youths from the state undergoing treatment in two different rehabilitations centres in Assam.
The state government ordered the inquiry after receiving a complaint on Saturday about the deaths under alleged mysterious circumstances.
Informing about the inquiry, social welfare minister Paul Lyngdoh said, “I should be getting the report by Monday mid-day.”
The deceased – Rickelson Jyrwa from Golf Link and Meban Syndor from Mawlai Mawtawar – were undergoing treatment at Better Living Wellness Foundation at Mangaldai and Alive Again Foundation in Hatisila, Chandrapur.
According to Meghalaya Users Forum (MUF), both rehabilitation centres are owned by one Arup Jerial Passah. Better Living Wellness Foundation is co-owned by one Sabir Khan and Alive Again Foundation is co-owned by one Shahid.
Terming the circumstances of their deaths as highly suspicious, MUF said, “Syndor’s body was handed over by the rehabilitation administration from Jorabat, Assam, to his relatives without any police involvement, autopsy, or post-mortem examination.”
