Probe underway into Mawiong CHC doctor’s absence after MP’s death

Shillong, Feb 23: An inquiry is underway to look into the absence of a doctor at Mawiong Community Health Centre when Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon was rushed there on February 19, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Assembly on Monday.

“Inquiry is already taking place and based on that inquiry the health department is taking necessary steps,” Sangma said, adding that the health minister would be better positioned to comment on the matter.

Syngkon, a Voice of the People Party (VPP) leader, collapsed while playing futsal and was taken to the CHC, which reportedly had no doctor on duty. He was later shifted to Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital, where he was declared dead.
