Process for appointment of 1,000 teachers to start soon

Shillong, Feb 20: The state government will soon start the process of recruitment of around 1,000 teachers at various levels in government schools.

This is going to be one of the major job opportunities created by state government since the appointment of over 1000 teachers in 2023.

“We are ready for the next round of recruitment at all levels for the government schools,” director of School Education & Literacy Swapnil Tembe told reporters on Thursday.

“Currently, the roster is under examination and once it is approved then we will go ahead,” he said.

There are around 500 vacancies in the government lower primary schools, 10-20 in the upper primary schools and 200-300 in the secondary schools.

There is also a provision for appointment of substitute teachers against the vacancies in secondary schools to ensure students are not affected, he stated.

The other vacancies will be taken up after a due process of rationalisation for other schools, he said.
