Proposals for new border haats, LCS at Centre’s court

Shillong, May 18: Several proposals to set up new border haats and land customs stations (LCSs) along India-Bangladesh frontier are awaiting clearance from the Centre, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Monday.

“A number of proposals have been sent to the central government in terms of border haats, land custom stations. We are waiting for the approval from the central government,” Dhar told reporters

Stressing the bilateral nature of the projects, he said, “As this is an international thing, we have to get consent from both sides as we cannot open only from India and they cannot open only from Bangladesh.”

According to Dhar, the proposals are now being vetted.

“The process is under screening as of now by the Government of India, maybe with coordination with the Government of Bangladesh,” he said.
