The transition marks the end of the around two-year tenure of Rajahmundry MP D Purandeswari as the party president in the state, it said.

Madhav’s election as president was a foregone conclusion as he was the lone candidate to file the nomination on Monday.

Madhav said his family’s association with the BJP was strong and recalled how his father had dedicated him to the party from childhood.

“I was born during the Emergency. Now, 50 years later, I’m elected BJP (Andhra Pradesh) President. Under Purandeswari, we (BJP) won eight MLAs and three MPs in 2024 elections’”will work to double it in the next elections.” said Madhav in his address to party cadre after assuming charge.

He expressed immense pride in taking on the role during the RSS centenary and vowed to strengthen the BJP in the state.

Expressing gratitude to leaders like Purandeswari and Somu Veerraju, Madhav pledged to ensure Prime Minister Modi’s development vision reaches everyone in the state.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Madhav on his new role and emphasised the importance of NDA, saying it is vital for Andhra Pradesh’s inclusive and stable growth.

“Let us work together for the development of the state with coordination and mutual cooperation among the three alliance parties (TDP-JSP-BJP),” said Naidu in a post on X.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also congratulated Madhav on his election as the BJP state president.

“Madhav, a nationalist leader since his youth, raised key concerns in the Council (legislative) and now as BJP President, I hope he carries forward the NDA alliance’s spirit,” he said in a release.

Madhav entered active politics in 2003 by joining Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP.

During his tenure as the state vice president of BJYM between 2003 and 2007, he organised several events and worked towards strengthening the youth wing of BJP.

Madhav then held the position of state general secretary of BJYM from 2007 to 2010 and served as the national secretary between 2010 and 2013.
