Shillong, May 14: The state government is fully prepared to tackle any rain-related calamities that affect a large section of people every year across the state, minister in-charge Revenue and Disaster Management Kyrmen Shylla told reporters on Wednesday.
Shylla said the department is also doing its best to mitigate the impact of natural calamities through different alert mechanisms.
“We also urge people to take advantage of such alert mechanisms. Though we cannot rely hundred percent on them, we should be prepared at all times,” he stated.

He also emphasized that working together and supporting each other is the best solution to such a crisis.
On the recent landslide that occurred along the National Highway – 6, Shylla said the authorities concerned are trying their best to carry out the repair work but the problem is that there are too many trucks plying through this particular highway.
“Now repair is going on in Khliehriat town so we have seen it disturbed the travellers and the workers so we just have to adjust for now. This time the repair is being done very well and it could be a solution to the problem faced by commuters,” he said while stating that overloading by vehicles may be a big challenge for maintaining the NH-6.
