Raj Bhavan celebrates West Bengal’s foundation day

Shillong, June 20: Raj Bhavan, Shillong on Friday celebrated the foundation day of West Bengal and highlighted the rich cultural heritage and enduring contributions of the Bengali community residing in Meghalaya.

Addressing the gathering, chief secretary DP Wahlang paid tributes to the values of unity in diversity and praised the contributions of the Bengali community in the socio-cultural development of Meghalaya.

He also underscored the significance of celebrating such occasions in the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”.

Dr BDR Tiwari, commissioner & secretary to the governor, recalled the historical context of the state’s formation and the deep-rooted connections between the people of West Bengal and Meghalaya.

Various cultural items performed by artistes and troupes, including Paromita Paul from Shillong Music College, Rilbong Sports and Cultural Club, Shillong Tagore Choir, and Gitanjali Dance Academy added colour and spirit to the celebration.

A video screening on the foundation day of West Bengal offered insights into the legacy and progress of the state.
