Rapist in police net

Shillong, July 9: The police have arrested a 38-year-old man after evading arrest for several days after allegedly sexually assaulting his minor stepdaughter. 

The accused was arrested by the Special Cell East Khasi Hills and has been charged under the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), said East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem.

The victim’s mother learned about the pregnancy after she questioned her 15-year old-daughter. The teenanger revealed that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. She was taken to a hospital for further tests. 

The case is currently under investigation, said Syiem.
