Renowned Tura businessman Hiralal Prasad passes away

Tura, May 30: Hiralal Prasad, one of Tura Bazar’s most respected businessmen and philanthropists, passed away early Friday morning following a cardiac arrest. He was 78.

Prasad had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at Tura Civil Hospital. As his condition required advanced medical care, he was shifted to Downtown Hospital in Guwahati. However, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while under treatment and breathed his last.

A pioneering entrepreneur, Prasad was once among the largest rice merchants in the Garo Hills region before successfully diversifying into the retail sector. Through decades of business leadership, he earned a reputation for integrity, dedication, and community service.

Known for his gentle demeanor and soft-spoken nature, Prasad was also deeply committed to social causes. He extended support to several organizations working for the welfare of children and underprivileged sections of society.

He was among the senior-most leaders of the Tura Chamber of Commerce and a patron of The Shillong Times. His passing has been widely mourned, with members of the business fraternity and the wider community remembering him as a respected entrepreneur, philanthropist, and mentor.
His demise leaves a significant void in Tura’s business community and social landscape.
