Meghalaya signs host agreement for 39th National Games 2027

Shillong, May 30: Meghalaya on Friday achieved a major milestone in its sporting development with the inauguration of the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Hall at the J.N. Sports Complex in Shillong and the signing of the Host State Agreement for the 39th National Games 2027.

The indoor hall was inaugurated by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in the presence of Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Dr P.T. Usha.

Senior officials of the IOA, members of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association and representatives of Olympic associations from other northeastern states also attended the programme.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 132.9 crore, the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Hall is among the country’s largest indoor sports facilities. Completed in about two-and-a-half years, the venue is competition-ready and will host basketball and kabaddi events during the 39th National Games.

On the occasion, the Government of Meghalaya and the Indian Olympic Association formally signed the Host State Agreement for the 39th National Games, scheduled to be held in 2027.

The Games will be hosted across Shillong, Tura and Jowai and are expected to attract more than 10,000 athletes from across the country.

According to official estimates, the event is also expected to generate over 5,400 employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to the state’s economy and sports infrastructure.
