Shillong, Jan 9: The state government had made all out efforts to find a solution to the long-pending inter-state border dispute with neighbouring Assam even as challenges due to complicacy of the issue have posed hurdles before governments on both the sides.
Asserting the government’s sincerity in resolving the issue to ensure development in the border areas, deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday said, “The issue has been there for the past 50-52 years, and in the past 5 years, we are trying very hard to solve it.”
“It is a priority for the government. We are trying to solve it at the earliest possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dhar informed that regional committee for West Jaintia Hills will submit the report to the government after receiving the deputy commissioner’s report in this regard on villages under disputed Block-I area.
The DC has been given two months to prepare the report, he said.
“We will accordingly place our report before the government and both the governments will take a call on this,” he added.
Authorities on both sides have faced multiple challenges in the second phase of negotiation to resolve the remaining six areas of differences.
However, the counterparts in Assam are cooperating with the regional committee on the matter, the deputy CM said.
“We are cooperating with each other,” he said.
