Shillong, Dec 8: North Garo Hills district administration has reviewed preparations for the region’s biggest year-end cultural event, A’we Winter Festival, to be held at Resubelpara Mini Stadium from December 9 – 10.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Abhishek Saini, during his visit to the venue on Sunday, confirmed that all preparations will be completed by the evening of December 8.
The festival promises a vibrant mix of music, culture and entrepreneurship. While the first day will feature performances by singers and local artists, the final day will host four bands, along with a surprise band whose name will be revealed soon.
Over 70 stalls from self-help groups and private entrepreneurs will showcase locally made products including silk items, processed foods, handicrafts and indigenous produce. Food trucks and food stalls will add to the festive experience.
Dr Saini said the event is expected to draw at least 10,000 visitors, offering a major platform for local entrepreneurs to promote and sell their products. Publicity for the festival has been carried out through official social media channels, DIPR and Meghalaya Tourism, and entry will be free for all.
Security arrangements have been finalised, with the police preparing a detailed deployment plan. Magistrates are coordinating closely with the DSP overseeing security. Fire & Emergency Services and an on-site medical team will remain stationed at the venue throughout the festival.
Highlighting the value of such events, Dr Saini said, “Festivals are important because they bring communities together, celebrate our cultural identity and give a platform for local entrepreneurs. They strengthen social bonds and support our economy while showcasing the spirit of our region.”
