Rules to strengthen municipal governance get govt nod

Shillong, Oct 15: The state Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Technical Financial & Social Service Rules for municipalities in Meghalaya.

These rules are part of the government’s efforts to strengthen municipal governance and are in line with the directions and suggestions given by the Government of India, said Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma after chairing the meeting on Wednesday.

The cabinet also approved amendments to the Meghalaya Building Byelaws.

According to Sangma, the amendments will improve land management, streamline permission processes, and allow for more space for building construction.

In addition, the cabinet also approved minor amendments to the Meghalaya Health Service Rules to help in better management of health services in the state.

“It was a minor adjustment or a minor amendment and that was cleared by the cabinet, which is the Meghalaya Health Service Academic Rules, 2025,” the chief minister added.
