Shillong, March 25: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the relevant authorities to submit the required environmental clearances and a safety assessment report for the Shillong Airport’s runway extension project within three weeks.
Hearing a long-pending PIL on the matter, the division bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh recorded the Centre’s submission that environmental clearances would be granted shortly.
Deputy Solicitor-General Dr N Mozika told the court that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is preparing a safety assessment plan, which will be submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) within two to three weeks.
The DGCA will then consider granting execution-level approval for the project, Mozika said.
At his request, the court deferred further hearing to April 22, 2026.
