Shillong Airport expansion in 18 months: Dhar

Shillong, Nov 5: The expansion of the Shillong Airport is expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of issuing of the work order, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar informed on Tuesday.

The tender process is currently underway, and the Airport Authority of India is yet to allot the work.

Dhar told reporters that the state government has not handed over the land for expansion, but everything is in place and on track. He requested the Airport Authority to speed up the work, as the implementation agency is not from the state government.

Regarding the Baljek Airport, Dhar said that the state government has requested the Airport Authority to conduct a joint inspection to identify additional land for expansion. The government is awaiting a response from the Authority.

On the demand for better aircrafts to land at Baljek Airport, Dhar said that the priority is to get the airport ready first, and then discuss the issue. The state government has signed an agreement to hand over the airport to the Airport Authority of India.
